Respite / Short Breaks Service

What does the Respite / Short Breaks Service do?

The Short Breaks Service provides a range of services to support carers of individuals with significant and ongoing metal illness within the Omagh and Fermanagh area.

The range of services on offer include

  1. Monthly carers’ groups in both Omagh and Enniskillen
  2. 1-1 support / social outings for service users. These are designed to give the carer a break for several hours at a time. Breaks vary from 2 hours to full day trips.
  3. Monthly social evening events for service users held at Lisnamallard (Omagh), and Fermanagh House in Enniskillen.
  4. Service Users may avail of the Opportunity of a short break of 2-3 days accompanied by staff. These breaks are paid for by the service user.  Accommodation can range from hotels to Airbnb’s. This offers the service user the opportunity for a break, to engage in activities and to socialise.  Such trips are of significant value for carers as they can be reassured of staff care and supervision for their loved one.

What staff work in the Respite/Short Breaks Service?

The Respite/ Short Breaks service is staffed by a manager, 2 x senior day care workers, and a support worker.

Where is the Respite / Short Breaks service based?

The Short Breaks Service has bases in both Omagh and Enniskillen.

How do Patients access the Respite/Short Breaks service?

Clients come to the Respite/ Short Breaks service as referrals from Recovery Teams (What is a Recovery Team?). Referrals to the Short Breaks Service are made following identification of a carer’s need for support as part of a Carers Assessment carried out by a member of staff from the Adult Mental Health Recovery Team.

When is the Respite / Short Breaks Service available?

Individual support is provided Monday – Friday 9:00AM-5:00PM, but group activities and short breaks can take place in the evening.
