Living with Long Term Chronic health conditions such as Asthma, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Depression, Epilepsy, Fibromyalgia, Pain, Heart Conditions, Cancer, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease etc. can be very challenging. Dealing with symptoms and effects can seem like life has become a constant cycle of setbacks and negativity.
Self-management is about living the best life that one can in spite of having a health condition. Whether it is a physical, mental or emotional condition, self-management is about being actively involved in one’s recovery and developing skills that can enable one to overcome problems rather than worrying about them.
The Managing the Challenge Programme delivers two licensed self-management courses which runs throughout the Western Health and Social Care Trust area. With the courses Managing Your Condition and Managing Your Pain, participants understand their condition and symptoms better and learn new techniques to manage and improve their health. They set goals for themselves and improve confidence levels, which in turn will assist in improving overall quality of life.
Feedback from participants has stated a noticeable improvement in coping with their condition and managing their day-to-day life.
